Legacy of Faith- Hebrews 11Sample
“Let There Be Light”
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” —Hebrews 11:3
No one likes confusion or chaos. As we unpack today’s devotional, we will see how faith can bring things in chaos into a place of order. Today’s verse reveals to us that by faith, we can truly understand (comprehend, perceive with the mind) how the worlds were equipped, put in order, and arranged. When we look at the beginning of creation, we see in Genesis 1:2, “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” In that moment, God did something about the chaos and disorder He saw, and He spoke the very thing needed to bring things into order. According to Romans 10:8, faith is found in two places: in our hearts and in our mouths.
The God we serve is a God who operates under the same principles of faith. When God saw the chaos, He spoke the Word in faith to bring things out of disorder and into order. He did this by saying, “Let there be light.” Everything we see around us was created by something we can’t see—it was spoken by words! God conceived something in His heart and spoke it out of His mouth. Whether it was the stars in the sky or the grass in the fields, He spoke words in faith and framed the world around us. We can see this principle throughout the Word of God, whether we are talking about Abraham or Jesus calming the storm with just three words. You and I have the right to speak to that chaos today! According to 2 Corinthians 4:13, “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed, and therefore I spoke,’ we also believe and therefore speak.”
Today, you may be experiencing some form of chaos, or you may have never made Jesus the Lord of your life. Romans 10:10,13 says, “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation . . . whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” My life was brought out of chaos and disorder when I called upon the Lord in faith, and yours can be too!
About this Plan
Faith is more than a term—it’s essential to our Christian life. It’s not a sermon, denomination, or movement. Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11 remind us that "the just shall live by faith." Hebrews 11:1 also teaches, "Without faith, it is impossible to please Him." As children of God, we must cultivate and strengthen our faith. Over the next 14 days, Pastor Justin Bridges will lead us through Hebrews 11, showing us how to apply faith in our lives and how to live victoriously by faith, just like those heroes of faith who went before us.
