The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a YearSample
Week 10. Day 5. Joshua 22-24.
The key word in this section is serve/worship. It is the word used in Gen 2:15 for Adam’s role to ‘work’ the garden, and the same word as used in Ex 4:23 ‘Let my son go that he may worship me’
The purpose of both creation and redemption is that we may worship/serve God in his presence forever!
Ch 23 What does Joshua tell the next generation of leaders?
Note 23:14 – another reminder (like 21:45) of the Lord’s faithfulness to all his promises.
Ch 24:1-13 Joshua’s ‘Bible overview’. What are the aspects of the story so far that Joshua emphases?
24v14-18 What lessons does Joshua draw from this history?
24v19 What is the surprise here?
Just like the end of Deuteronomy, the future rebellion of God’s people is predicted. Despite the graciousness of all God’s promises, and his faithfulness to his people, something—or someone—even greater is going to be needed to bring them eternally into his presence.
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
