The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a YearSample
Week 10. Day 4. Joshua 13-21.
This section on dividing the land is not the most interesting read for us today! I’ve deliberately put this as one long section, so you can skim it briefly and just note some key verses.
What is important here is the big picture that is being painted:
- Every gift of land is hugely significant and positive! Imagine you were one of the people being given your inheritance in the new Eden, the kingdom of God!
- Increasing negative notes of peoples not driven out. (15:63; 16:10; 17:12-13) ‘If Adam was undone by one unclean serpent, the presence of so many unclean seed of the serpent bodes ill for the seed of the woman.’ Hamilton, 142
Josh 18:1 ‘the land was subdued before them’ Can you think how this links back to God’s commission to Adam and Eve in Gen 1:28.
Josh 21:43-45 are key verses for the book of Joshua. What do you notice as significant here?
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
