Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 263 OF 365

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them” (Ecclesiastes 12:1).

Do you use time wisely?

Solomon, who is older and wiser by the time he pens Ecclesiastes, commands younger people not to fritter away their youth, but serve the Creator. The Hebrew term “Creator” is plural and could be translated “Creators". God in Trinity is involved in creation and must be served. Solomon graphically depicts the aging process to warn young people that their vim and vigor will fade (Ecclesiastes 12:2-7), so they should prudently use their time. Moses, who contrasts the eternality of God with frail man (Psalm 90:1-11), writes, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). Paul gives an additional reason: “redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16). Wise youth serve their Creators!

Employment Point: Serve God in your youth.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
