Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 259 OF 365

Now godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6).

What two things should you pray for?

We are introduced to Agur in Proverbs 30. He understands the power of the Word and prayer. He writes, “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:5). Next, he prays to be kept from deception. He requests, “Two things I request of You (deprive me not before I die): Remove falsehood and lies far from me” (Proverbs 30:7-8a). Prudently he seeks the Lord to protect him from being deceived. Next, he shows that we should pray to obtain Godward dependence. He continues, “Give me neither poverty nor riches—feed me with the food allotted to me; lest I be full and deny You, and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God” (Proverbs 30:8b-9).

Employment Point: Pray to be kept from deception, and to practice Godward dependence.
