Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 195 OF 365

Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus (Acts 18:24).

What three qualities worthy of imitation did Apollos exhibit?

Apollos was born in Egypt in Alexandria, renowned for its vast library. The first term we could apply to Apollos is learned (Acts 18:24-25). He diligently studied and articulated the Old Testament scripture. Moreover, his second admirable trait is listening, which conveys that he learns from others. “When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately” (Acts 18:26). The learned teacher, having received a fuller education about Jesus, now employs his skill set, which demonstrates that he is thirdly laborious (Acts 18:27-28). As he travels to Achaia, “he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ” (Acts 18:28).

Employment Point: Strive to be biblically learned, listening, and laborious.
