Holy Spirit, Hold My HandSample
Free from Guilt and Shame
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death' (Romans 8:1-2, NIV).”
Romans chapter 8 started with a strong declaration of our freedom. The Spirit of God frees us from guilt and the feeling of condemnation.
So many of us carry the weight of guilt tucked away deep within our hearts, where it silently lingers. Even as we are taught about the Salvation Doctrine, this guilt seems reluctant to depart.
We might quietly find ourselves trying to offset this guilt—maybe through our offerings or by pouring ourselves into church activities.
But think about it: when we attempt to repay God, aren't we somehow diminishing Christ's Priceless Sacrifice on the Cross for us? Let's embrace the fullness of His Grace, freeing ourselves from the burden of guilt and truly appreciating the Magnitude of His Love.
The Spirit of God reminds us that we are beloved children of God, that He has sealed us, and that He Himself is the Guarantee of our complete inheritance. He reminds us that '... in Christ, we are justified by God' (2 Corinthians 5:21). We are and will always be Righteous in God.
Romans 8:14-16 (NKJV) says: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s Beloved Children. There is no longer any condemnation, judgment, or blame from God. The Holy Spirit's indwelling isn’t a silent tenant but a source of our motivation. He stirs our hearts not towards a checklist to escape the guilt but towards a life of genuine love, peace, and joy.
Our actions will no longer be to gain His Favor or to be free from guilt; they are the fruit of realizing we already enjoy it. He will guide you to a life that reflects His Love, not obligations, not the pressure to break free from guilt.
Our own hearts can level accusations against us, serving as sin’s last weapon to separate us from God’s Grace. These accusations tempt us to feel unworthy of God's Love, leading us to question, 'Can God truly accept me?' Herein lies a vital aspect of faith: “to accept that we are accepted." I John 3:19-20 says, “And by this we know that we are of the truth and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.”
Guilt is the old nature and way of life from our past, but the Spirit of God gives us Life and frees us from that bondage.
