King & KingdomsSample

One of the most profound statements God makes in this passage is that David wouldn't build God a house, God would build David a house.
We don't really talk like this anymore, but what God means is that he would make David's family big and long-lasting. He says David would never fail to have a descendant on the throne, and for the time in which David lived, that was just about the best promise you could get.
But it was even better than David knew, because down the line, generations after David had died, a boy named Jesus would be born in his family. And that boy would eventually be recognized as the eternal King in a sense David never imagined. David never got to build God a house, but he got to be a part of something far beyond what he would have ever dreamed instead.
Think it Over: Are there areas of life where you've felt God has let you down by not doing what you asked? How might God be planning something even better for you?
