The Apostles Preach in Jerusalem

A Prayer

To obey you brings us more delight than sacrifice. You make us holy because of what you have done on our behalf. Your righteousness covers us and makes us holy. We want to be holy because you are holy. Your Spirit comes to us and lives in us. It never ceases to amaze us that you yourself indwell us. Your Holy Spirit comes to us, changes, transforms and renews us. Praise you, Jesus, as you stand at the right hand of the Father. You are the Prince of Peace, King of kings, and the Lamb that was slain. Catch us up in your love that we might obey you above all else. Amen.

Journal Exercise

What was the one obvious quality which both Peter, John and the apostles had when it came to proclaiming Jesus Christ as the only Saviour? Write a prayer asking God that you, and the leaders of the church, may have boldness. Pray that God will have mercy on your community as they hear the message of the cross proclaimed.

Note some points the apostles made about Jesus and his salvation. Write a prayer asking that the preachers in your church may always preach the message of the early apostles. Pray that God will be merciful to your community in this way.

A Challenging Prayer

Pray that God’s people, in submission to the Lord Jesus Christ and his command to make disciples of all nations, will:

• Reform the life of the Church (including our culture, ordinances, customs, use of resources and the deployment of ministry), which will in turn.
• Encourage and enable the multiplication of faithful Christian fellowships, congregations and churches, obedient to the teaching of the Bible, which equip and nurture their members, and extend into our villages, towns and cities and ‘in all the world.’
