Finding Fulfillment at Work: Part III
God’s purpose for each of us is to glorify Him, but for that to happen God developed a plan and a calling for each of us. Unfortunately, some believe only pastors and missionaries have a calling.
The story of Bezalel debunks that idea quickly. When God wanted his tabernacle built and furnished, He didn’t ask a priest or a Levite, he asked Bezalel, a craftsman.
In Exodus 35, Moses proclaimed, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship.”
Bezalel was the first person mentioned in scripture as being filled with the Holy Spirit. In addition, God provided Bezalel skill, intelligence, and knowledge about his craft. Imagine how exciting it was for Bezalel to see the finished product of his work, knowing that God had specifically equipped him to perform these duties for Almighty God.
Like Bezalel, God has a specific vocational calling that He is equipping you to carry out for His glory.
Questions for Reflection
- Has God provided clarity for you yet on what His purpose and calling is for you vocationally? How does it feel when you use your God-given skills at work in a way that results in excellence?
- What are you good at? What are your employees or colleagues good at? How could you combine your abilities for the glory of God?
- Read about the building of Solomon's temple in 1 Kings 6 to see what the combined work of many different talents can accomplish.
