Journaling Through LentSample

Remembering God’s Grace & Mercy
Today, let us meditate on the grace and mercy of God. I’ve often used grace and mercy interchangeably in the past, but as I’ve matured in my walk with God, I’ve developed a much clearer understanding of their similarities and differences.
God’s mercy is His withholding from us the judgment we deserve for our wrongdoings. God’s grace is His showering us with favor we don’t deserve. Ephesians 2 says that we are saved by grace. We have done nothing to earn our salvation; it is purely God’s favor extended to us, of which we are allowed to partake in eternity – something we don’t deserve. And Lamentations chapter 3 says, “His mercies are new every morning." I think about that, and I’m gobsmacked. God, every day, you find ways to withhold the judgment I deserve for the sin I constantly struggle with. Wow! My mind is blown away. Where would I be without His amazing grace and His astounding mercy?
Today, take time to think about grace and mercy. A popular Christian song says, “If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking." God’s grace abounds so generously that we can’t compete or keep up with it – it is vast, free-flowing, and unimaginably deep. Psalm 23 says, “His goodness and mercy” will follow us for the rest of our lives. Once we’ve committed our lives to Christ, His mercy is a constant companion. We can’t be separated from it.
Thank and praise Jesus for how gracious and merciful He’s been to you today.
