Greater Journey

DAY 7 OF 12

GREATER POWER

READY
'But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

SET
It was a grueling hot morning as I embarked on a 32 km long run as part of my preparation for a marathon. I started a little later than I intended and by then the sun was up and humidity was increasing. I thought with all the training I had done and with my own experience and strength, it would be just like any other run. How wrong I was! As the run went on, I felt my pace slow, my breathing labored, and I felt weaker and weaker. By the halfway mark, I felt like I could not complete the run and wanted to throw in the towel. It was then that I looked up and prayed that God would take over and help me finish the run.

A lot of times, we try to rely on our own strength and power to do things. We yearn to be powerful, whether it is physical or reputational. The world is obsessed over power, causing strife and wars.

The Bible on the other hand has a very different view.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)

The Bible provides many examples of how God’s Power is amplified when people are weak and dependent on him. As the world craves power, we need to look at God and admit our shortcomings, and acknowledge that we cannot do things on our own. The more impossible the task, the more we need to entrust that to God and rely on His Grace.

That morning, I completed the run by relying on God’s Grace. It wasn’t easy admitting my own weakness as I was powerless to maintain a faster pace and took a few unintended breaks. But through my morning of weakness, God showed His Strength and made a seemingly impossible run possible.

  • Are there areas of your life where you need God’s power?
  • Are there any areas or situations in life right now where you need to admit your weakness and rely on God’s Grace?
  • What can you do to constantly rely on God’s Power?
