Greater Journey

DAY 11 OF 12

GREATER FOCUS

READY
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3

SET
When going for a run, it is easy to lose focus and let our minds wander. Running can reduce stress after a long day of work and allow us to lose ourselves in our thoughts. However, when training and preparing for a race, it is important to focus on the objectives of each run, whether it is an interval workout, tempo run, or long run. Focusing on the objectives of each type of run allows us to reap the benefits of the training. It is important to prepare ourselves before each run so that we are clear-minded and ready for the run. Focusing can be difficult when tiredness creeps in or distractions from work or errands that have yet to be completed creep in.

The same can be said for our walk with God. Focusing on Jesus can be difficult with all the distractions and temptations of life, but focusing on Jesus is what we need to run the race of life well. We need to remind ourselves daily, through the mountains and valleys, that we need to cling to Jesus knowing He is the Light that gets us through every situation.

Just like running, we need to practice the discipline of praying, meditating, reading, and getting familiar with the Word and Voice of God. We can also find like-minded friends to run the race of life with together, reminding each other and praying for one another to find that greater focus on Jesus.

GO

  • What distracts us from focusing on God daily?
  • Try to recall moments where it is easier to focus on God and try to recreate these moments.
  • What can you do to focus on God more?
