Encountering JesusSample
DISCOVER
In our reading today, verses 2 and 3 start by quoting Isaiah prophesying about the coming of John the Baptist and how he would prepare a way for Jesus. Verses 4 through 8 demonstrate the fulfillment of that prophecy in the life of John the Baptist. He now preaches about the coming of one mightier than him, of whose straps he is not worthy to untie. Here, we get to see both the prophecy and its fulfillment in John’s life.
LEARN
Having a heart of repentance requires an attitude of humility. If we are prideful, it is hard to get to a place where we admit to doing wrong, followed by asking for forgiveness. A humble heart confesses and repents even when earthly desire and pride fight against it. John the Baptist witnessed the perfect life of Jesus on earth, which was very humbling. We serve the same Jesus who sits at the right hand of the Father. When we look at it that way, an attitude of humility isn’t hard to grasp.
APPLY
Are there some things on your heart or mind that you need to bring to your Savior? Is there anything that you need to confess and repent of? Ask God for a heart of humility and ask Him to show you this sin in your life so you can identify it, repent of it, and begin to move forward with the help of the Holy Spirit.

About this Plan
Join us as we walk through seven encounters with Jesus. Just as Jesus transformed these individuals, the narratives of your shame, fear, guilt, and failure find redemption when met by the grace bought by His death on the cross. Your response to encountering Jesus has the power to transform the darkness of your story into a picture of grace, and redemption. How will you respond when you encounter Jesus?
