Advent: The Coming of Jesus Christ

DAY 3 OF 25

DEVOTIONAL

Welcome back to day 3 of Advent! Today, we’re celebrating the “Wonderful…Mighty…Everlasting…” God. We affirm the theologians of old who have said that the purpose of man is to “glorify God and to enjoy Him, forever.”

Glorifying means worshiping and praising God, not just with music but in our daily actions and words. Praising God also includes ENJOYING Him. What does that mean? Sometimes, it means spending time falling in love with His Word. Other times, it’s about making memories, completing a work, going on an adventure, or creating something - knowing that you are reflecting the image of God. Sometimes, it’s seizing opportunities to give to others as Jesus did. Enjoying God may be sitting back with a cup of coffee while watching a beautiful sunset, or raking the leaves of your neighbor's yard or having a family dance party in the living room. The list goes on and on of how we can praise God in EVERY MOMENT.

But we MUST pay attention to those moments. So here’s a silly challenge for you to remember that God is good, which means He is the God of FUN and LAUGHTER. Are you ready?

ACTIVITY

Part 1: Recall some fun memories from the past year. If you are with a group, try to recall a fun shared memory. Pray and thank God for the fun memories God gave you! Ask yourselves, how did God show up wonderfully and mightily this year? WRITE THEM DOWN and post them in your house to see often.

Part 2: Now for the challenge: It’s time to build a happy snowman - snow is not required. Blaring Christmas music makes this even more fun.

Rules of the game: You have 3 minutes to run throughout the place you're in and grab whatever items you can find to build the most creative snowman. Some ideas may be toilet paper, bags of flour, pillows, anything! You can make this a fun competition.

Step 1: Start a 3-minute timer

Step 2: GO! Find supplies!

Step 3: Times up! Come back to your starting place

Step 4: Using the supplies you found - nothing more, create your most artistic, happy snowman

Step 5: Name your snowman

Step 6: Take a picture with your snowman

Step 7: Upload it to social media with #crosstowneadvent

Step 8: Add this memory to the list you made in part 1.

Step 9: Come back tomorrow for DAY 4!
