Advent: The Coming of Jesus Christ

DAY 6 OF 25

DEVOTIONAL

Welcome to Day 6 of Advent! What an excellent opportunity to remember the reason for the season: Jesus and giving to others. This week, we have been celebrating the prophets who told us about the arrival of the Messiah. Being a prophet was a hard job! Imagine sharing a prophecy about a coming King and the SAVIOR OF THE WORLD. Some people had a hard time believing prophets like Isaiah. He was not the most popular guy in the crowd. But Isaiah was right! HOPE was coming in the form of a baby named Jesus. He would one day grow up and take on all our sins to save us. The HOPE of the world was and is named Immanuel, which means "God with us." He is with us. 24/7, 365. The King is here.

ACTIVITY

Part 1: Are you thankful for HOPE? Us too! HOPE is one of the countless things we can be grateful for! Giving thanks to God is one of the best ways to fight off anxiety, sadness, anger, and despair. So, let's start thanking God for everything He has done, is doing, and will do in our lives.

Part 2: Grateful Chain

Cut strips of construction paper (or other paper) about 2 to 3 inches wide by 11 inches long. Write a different person/place/thing you are thankful for on each strip of paper. Create a loop by stapling or gluing together both ends of the first strip of paper. Then loop in the next strip - stapling or gluing both of its ends together. Do this with each strip - creating a thankful chain. HINT: Using Christmas colors for your paper, such as green and red, make it so you use your grateful chain as extra decoration this season!
