James

DAY 2 OF 35

The humility to identify himself as “a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ” is striking from James.

Identifying himself as a servant of Jesus is significant because tradition suggests that James was the biological brother of Jesus.

It seems as if Jesus’ brothers initially did not believe he was the Messiah (see John 7:5), but Paul says that the risen Jesus had appeared to someone called James (see 1 Corinthians 15:7). After this, James becomes the leader of the church in Jerusalem (see Acts 12:17, Acts 15:13-21).This shows that James had been in the process of reconciling that Jesus was not only his brother, but his Lord and Saviour. This propelled him into having a key role in the early church.

About this Plan

James

The Epistle of James has so much to offer us as followers of Jesus today. It was originally written to Jewish Christians spread all over the ancient world. The message is straight to the point, practical, and challenging. Wherever we find ourselves following Jesus, this letter can help us realize how our spiritual and practical life should be one in the same.
