Verse 4 says, “let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
As followers of Jesus, we are on a journey of becoming – becoming who God has truly made us to be as humans. Perseverance can lead us to being complete and whole because we are not reliant on outside influences bringing us happiness or satisfaction.
Maturity means understanding that life is much too complicated and varied to believe that doing whatever makes us happiest in the moment is what we should live for. Sometimes we must push past how we feel and allow perseverance to finish its work in us.

About this Plan

The Epistle of James has so much to offer us as followers of Jesus today. It was originally written to Jewish Christians spread all over the ancient world. The message is straight to the point, practical, and challenging. Wherever we find ourselves following Jesus, this letter can help us realize how our spiritual and practical life should be one in the same.
