Prayers, Guidance and Wisdom for DadsSample
Being Anxious Doesn’t Solve Anything
Anxiety—it’s such a vulnerable feeling and state of being. Unfortunately, none of us are immune to anxiety. And yet Scripture contains more than 300 verses telling us not to worry or fear. It almost seems like a cruel joke. We’re feeling a mother lode of stress and anxiety, and God says, “Just stop it.”
To give God the benefit of the doubt, instead of being a cruel joke, perhaps those verses are meant to acknowledge that he is fully aware of our battle with anxiety throughout life. Maybe he knows how hard it will be for us when we feel like we’ve lost all control.
Maybe he wants us to remember that control was never ours, to begin with.
He provides, calls the shots, and takes care of whatever is needed. He’s the one who will be found faithful in every circumstance that we’re worrying about.
When God tells us not to worry or fear, He isn’t saying not to feel those things but instead not to act upon them. You don’t need to scramble to regain control when things seem to be spinning out of it. Instead, cast them on him and trust his sovereignty over them. He is a God who provides, sustains, and renews strength.
Save yourself from anxiety by letting God do what he does best. After all, trusting God and not worrying add peace to your life.
Let’s Pray:
Dear Lord, I’m so grateful you’re in control of everything. I give you all my anxieties today and ask you to remove any fear, dread, or worry I feel. Please help me to stand firm in peace instead of scrambling in stress. Amen.
