Romans - Part 1: SINSample

Romans - Part 1: SIN

DAY 21 OF 35

Romans 2:14-16. Right Now Counts Forever!

God created the world and everything in it. But in creating man, God did something unique. He made man “in His own image.” Part of that image involves living in community, similar to God, who lives in community with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Man and woman were to be fruitful and multiply, to fill and subdue the Earth.

However, men and women had to learn to love God and love each other in order to live in community. Paul declares, in vs 15. that He put the moral law on people’s hearts so that they inherently know they are to love God and to love others. For the Jews. God gave them the 10 commandments, which Paul asserts is merely the moral law in written form. But for the Gentile, the non-Jew, this moral law is written on their hearts, and they are convicted by their consciences when they violate this natural law.

Whether you are a Jew, with the written law, or a Gentile, living under natural law, we are all law breakers and we all know we are subject to judgment. Moreover, an unbeliever, whether he admits it or not, lives under the dread of coming death and judgment – he inherently knows that all is not well. This fact gives us confidence to discuss with any unbeliever who will listen, the bad news of coming death and judgment, but above all, the blessed good news of redemption in Christ. For life is everlasting and where we spend it is determined by what we do today
