Resilient: Powerful Hope in a Dangerous World

DAY 43 OF 45

We confuse humility with self-depreciation. C.S. Lewis once said, “humility is not thinking less of yourself; rather, it is thinking of yourself less.” Humility is not antithetical to our confidence and identity in Christ. Humility aligns with God's selfless love because it is rooted in faith or confident expectation for better days ahead.

Peter makes a relationship between humility in our relationships – particularly as we lead those who are spiritual infants or children – and receiving glory. Jesus was the most humble of kings, yet He is seated at the right hand of God on the throne. We can expect our heavenly inheritance when we practice true humility in our relationships. We can expect a crown of glory waiting for us.

Our dream of being a prince or princess in the royal courts dressed in the finest clothes and eating the best foods will be our reality – just not on this side of heaven. On earth, we have to endure humility, suffering, and patience so that the world may know the freedom and life offered through Jesus.

Reflection Questions

  1. Be honest here – where do you struggle with pride? Where are you controlling? When do your feelings get hurt when things don’t go your way? When do you experience jealousy or anxiety? Pray through these things in repentance and bring them to the Lord.
  2. Do you trust God’s timing? Why or why not?
