Resilient: Powerful Hope in a Dangerous World

DAY 41 OF 45

Did you know that you can be a co-laborer with God?

When we think of serving the church or our neighbors or evangelizing to the lost in our neighborhoods or workplaces, we usually think of it as an extracurricular activity. Serving is not something that cushions our applications to heaven to make us better, more well-rounded applicants for the pearly gates. Serving others for the sake of Christ is the highest honor we could ever know on this side of heaven.

1 Peter 5 instructs Peter’s audience on what it looks like to be a shepherd of God’s flock (the Church), just as Jesus is the Chief Shepherd. We must steward His grace, endure suffering with faithfulness, and humbly serve each other in love. It’s in this way that we partner with the love and character of God to bring His kingdom down to earth.

The idea of working with God also suggests some kind of payment or reward for our efforts: and there is. As we enter into this glorious invitation for partnership, we are promised to partake in the same glory that Jesus exudes. When we enter into eternity with our king, we receive an unfading crown and have the honor of experiencing His restoration, healing, and strength.

Reflection Questions

  1. What is your relationship like with serving?
  2. What are things that you are passionate about that you could make your place of service?
  3. How are you stewarding the grace of God?
