22. God Reveals His Plan

“When troubles come He is not far, I know He is watching over me.” The words of this song seem to depict the situation that unfolds in the text before us. God speaks from the burning bush and says that He has seen the miseries of His people in Egypt. He has seen what has been done to them; He will not allow it anymore. He has decided to lead His people out of Egyptian misery. Moses receives a task; God reveals to him what awaits him and lets him know the gravity of the situation, but also shows him the “light at the end of the tunnel”. God says, “I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless compelled by a mighty hand…” Moses is waiting for a confrontation with Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, but God is with him: “So I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt...after that he will let you go.” God shows Moses that He is watching over His people. God promises to save His people, and it was so. Just like the Israelites, we too know how to be enslaved to circumstances and situations in our everyday life. God sees our miseries, whatever they may be, and wants to help us. He wants to save us. God watches over us, and speaks to us, through his Word, through brothers and sisters, through circumstances and people in our life. And sometimes, like Moses, He sends us to help someone else. Let’s open our hearts to hear His voice and follow Him, whether we ourselves need a way out of some slavery, or someone else needs our help.
