Following the Trail of God's Promises: The 40-Day Challenge

DAY 22 OF 42

21. God Reveals His Name

God speaks to Moses from the burning bush and sends him back to Egypt to lead the people of Israel out of slavery. Moses considers himself completely incapable of this task. He doesn't even know what answer he will give to the Israeli elders when they ask him, “Who is the one who sent you?” Why would they even believe Moses’ story in the midst of the hopelessness and oppression they are in? Why would they recognize Moses as a leader?

In response to Moses’ questions, doubt and fear, God decides to reveal his true name to Moses for the first time: “I AM WHO I AM … YAHWEH”. I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, but more than that, “I AM”. I am not the God of your limited past, good and faithful only to your ancestors. There is no time in the past before which I did not exist and no time in the future when I will not exist. I am Yahweh - present, available, active, and close to those who seek deliverance, forgiveness and guidance. Today you may feel enslaved and oppressed; you need to give or receive forgiveness, you need to step forward, but fear is blocking you. Or perhaps you need fresh vitality, but only exhaustion appears.

God’s presence, in Jesus Christ, is realized now, because “Emmanuel - God with us” stands before you!

Jesus says: I AM! (John 8:58) Allow God to reveal His name to you anew now!

About this Plan

Following the Trail of God's Promises: The 40-Day Challenge

"Following the Trail of God's Promises" includes biblical texts and corresponding personal reflections from 40 different authors on God’s perfect plan of salvation, visible throughout the history of humanity - from the creation of the world and Adam, through Noah, Abraham, David - until the coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ. This extraordinary salvation Story continues even now, and this plan wants to encourage readers to recognize themselves in it.
