Women Who Struggle With LustSample
1 Timothy 6:6-9 says, “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction."
Contentment is so much more than being happy. It is much more than buying the next popular item, going on a trip, or even marrying the right person. We may think those things will help us, but it is never enough, and we find ourselves wanting more. If we want true contentment, we must realize that the joy that we are craving won't be found in impressing others, escaping reality, or running away from our problems but is only found in Jesus. If that weren’t the case, then one vacation a lifetime would be enough, and one car, one house, and one accomplishment would be enough. However, we have one Savior who is enough for us. If you are looking toward the world for contentment, you will find yourself chasing an end that can never be found and a prize that can never be won.
This world will not encourage you to slow down and wait for God to move; it won't tell you to be grateful for what He has given you, and it won’t tell you the truth. Timothy is telling us not to get wrapped up in the love of money and other worldly things because it will lead to destruction. One little thought leads to another, then another, then you have lost control and are emptier than what you were when you started because the things of the world cannot sustain you. Every day we must consciously decide to follow God’s will and deny our own. Today, let's pray for strength!
Prayer: God, we pray against temptation, love of money, and other worldly desires. We pray for the strength to go to You when we feel empty. We pray to be able to distinguish the difference between our wants and Your plan for us. We thank You for meeting us with grace and open arms. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
