Theology for Everybody: Romans

DAY 58 OF 365

Phase four is the cult of wokeism as a secular religion. Wokeism is the counterfeit of being born again. It is the belief that one’s mind has been opened by critical theorists and social justice activists. And now you see as God sees. You see clearly, and you judge clearly, and because you are awakened, you don’t need God. I am a little “god” who exists to judge and pour out wrath.

In the 2010s, “social justice scholarship” brought all these disparate disciplines together under the guise of critical theory. To quote Romans 1:25, “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature [their philosophical system] rather than the Creator.” Verse 22 explains, “Claiming to be wise, they became fools.”

This new religion is now the greatest threat to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here is a basic outline of the cult of wokeism:

1. Trinity—postmodern deconstruction, critical theory reconstruction, and social activism.

2. Bible—their feelings. “You can’t argue against my experience. What I feel and what I experience are true for me.”

3. Original sin—God-given gender, race, birthplace, and beliefs. If you were born a male, then you were born with a flaw, and you’re automatically a sexist. If you were born white, then you’re born with a flaw. You’re automatically racist. If you were born in the West, then you are born with a flaw. You’re born to be a colonialist. If you are a Christian, then you are born with a flaw, and you’re a religious bigot.

4. Accuser—Satan is speaking through others to be the accusers. We must be cautious that we love people, but we understand our war is not against flesh and blood but against powers, principalities, and spirits. The accuser speaks through people who are simply captives in war. Jesus needs to set them free!

5. Demonic—invisible, immaterial forces at work, such as prejudice, privilege, and bias.

6. Spiritual warfare—“You’re for us or against us.” They’ve taken Jesus’ place.

7. Victim—you are Jesus and the victim of others’ sin. You are the holy one, they are the unholy ones, and they have sinned against you. Therefore, they need to give an account to you.

8. Righteousness—based on depression, this is called intersectionality within critical theory and social justice activism. The more categories you’re in, the more oppressed you are and the more righteous you are.

9. Repentance—we don’t repent to God, but we demand others to repent. “You need to change how you think. You need to change who you are. You need to change what you believe. You need to change how you vote. You need to change, and you need to agree with me.”

10. Heretics—“If you disagree with us, then you’re shunned. You’re an outcast. You’re a racist. You’re a sexist. You’re a colonialist.”

11. Born again—“I was asleep, but now I’m awake. I’ve been born again. I’m new.”

12. Evangelists—activists who take it to the street.

13. Justice—rendered in the court of public opinion. “We’re going to get on social media and the news and judge you.”

14. Crucifixion—cancel culture. “Your show’s coming off the air. Your business is getting shut down. You’re getting fired. You’re losing your deal. You’re dead to us. We’re going to crucify your reputation, your future, your family, your income, and your opportunity.”

15. Pharisees—people who are quick to announce microaggression and gender pronoun missteps.

16. Kingdom—“Give us all the wealth and power, and we will distribute it as we see fit.”

17. Jihad—imposition, not proposition. “Convert or die. Join us, or we will destroy you.”

18. Judgment—everyone and everything get judged, except for them.

19. Heaven—“We’re making heaven on earth without God.”

20. Hell—“If you don’t convert, life will be hell, and we will burn your world down.”
