The Two-Piece Jigsaw

God, the Creator, knew that man would need a helper. None was suitable from the other species and creatures, so He created one from the body of the man. On seeing her, the first man Adam declared that she was bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh; therefore, he named her woman (Genesis 2:23).
So God was clear – woman is part of man, and when they are brought together in holy matrimony, she completes him. They become one flesh, one entity. After God, the wife becomes man’s priority – the place hitherto occupied by his parents. This is what is meant by, ‘leaves his father and mother’. It by no means suggests that a man should abandon his parents, or ignore their needs and stop looking after them.
By becoming ‘one’, the couple is like a two-piece jigsaw. Without one, the other is incomplete. Both are equally responsible for making the picture whole. They become one unit - thinking, acting and speaking in one voice. Both are created in God’s image. Therefore, when God made her as man’s helper, He did not make her inferior or menial. In Hebrew, ‘help’ implies support, someone who aids the other, who shares the workload, who is a perfect partner for one’s assignment on earth.
What a beautiful relationship God thought of. Let us cherish our partners, as we are ‘flesh of their flesh and bone of their bones’, and never forget why God brought us together.

Lord, thank You for my spouse. We complete each other. I want to honor You by cherishing him/her. Amen.
