Find Your MissionSample
Before we get into your mission, I want to share with you general callings that apply to all Jesus followers.
The best place to start is where Jesus spoke his last words to the disciples. Clearly, it was so important to him that he saved them for last. We find them in Matthew 28, the Great Commission. This one is so clear that no follower of Jesus could say he was not given a mission. It is not a mission request from Jesus, it is a Great Commission! But not only that. You can continue the list of general callings for quite a while.
You are called to freedom (Galatians 5:1), called to discipleship (Luke 9:59), called to sonship (Ephesians 1:5). Later, Paul writes that you are called to be different. You are called to holy living (1 Peter 1:15). You are called to love your neighbor and make peace (Matthew 5:9). And you are also called to accept disadvantages or suffering that discipleship may bring. In short, you are called to follow in His footsteps (Luke 9:23).
But now to you. Let's set out to find your mission.
What motivates you? Love or fear? Pain or joy? Some people are driven by love for others. Some are driven by fear of missing out on life. Still others feel the pain of missed opportunities. And still others are motivated by anticipation and desire for the new there is to achieve. Whatever drives you, use this momentum to move forward. If you really want it, you'll see unimagined opportunities arise. You're not satisfied with the status quo. You don't want to just live comfortably and safely. You want more. This inner attitude is the prerequisite for God to blow up your idea of life with his mission. You may become happy and rich in other ways. But a fulfilled life is the one who is on the track of his very personal mission.
God will lead you into situations where pain, joy, love or fear will no longer leave you cold. The urge for change makes you question all that you have accepted as "normal" until now. There is a strength that is only released in this tension. A beauty that only becomes visible in pain. Courage that you only get in the valley of fear. A dissatisfaction that you must act out of love because you can no longer watch. And an anticipation that releases strength and stamina because you know you have found your mission. You were born for this moment. You are here to meet the need of this world. You are ready to subordinate your own expectations of life to this mission. Believe me: your mission is right in front of you.
