Find Your MissionSample
Do you know your mission? And do you live it? Knowing your mission and living it will unleash unimagined power in your life. Your mission has the potential to change your attitude and expectations about life. Your thinking will be renewed. You will begin to see opportunities in obstacles. You will overcome fears and redefine the word "impossible".
At the same time, there are some reasons that can stop you from living your mission. There's fear of failing or being labeled a crazy person. Fear of disappointing others or losing control can also hinder you. Or doubts of not having the necessary strength and resources. Yes, in the end, it can even be simple selfishness, pride and comfort.
Does God always reach the goal with His plan? I think so. Sometimes it takes him a long time to get there. Your free will is the variable that God puts in your hand. It is your share in the fulfillment of his dream. The Bible tells several stories about how God reached his goal through detours. The story of Jonah is one of them. The desert wanderings of the people of Israel. Or the story of Moses. God had foretold Abraham that his descendants would live in Egypt for 400 years and be oppressed. He would then lead them out again. A few decades before the 400 years expired, God actively intervened in history. Miraculously, Moses survived, even though all the boys in his generation were killed. And not only that. He even became the grandson of Pharaoh. To me, it looks like God had a diplomatic emigration of His people in the making. But Moses made a fatal decision. It was the year 390 in Egypt for Israel, when Moses in anger struck an Egyptian dead and had to flee. He then spent a whole 40 years in the desert. So long, until his adoptive grandfather had died. Only then God could continue his story with him and lead Israel out of Egypt. 30 years longer than originally predicted, God's people had to suffer as slaves in Egypt. This story is symbolic of what happens when you make life decisions without God. God will still carry out His mission. But it can lead to you fulfilling what you were called to do much later. For Moses, it had a 40-year consequence. Boot camp as a shepherd in the desert. For the people of Israel, it meant 30 years longer to be mistreated as slaves. And for the Egyptians it meant ten plagues and the loss of their own army.
If you let yourself be held back from fulfilling your mission, you can still live a comfortable and quiet life. The tragedy is that you are missing out on potential that your Creator has given you. You are depriving yourself of the personal development that your mission will unleash in you. And you deprive others of having your abilities meet their need.
