Miracles behind the scenes
"Lonely, I am so lonely, I have nobody…" The song boomed loudly from my car radio, and for a brief moment, I sang along until I realized, "Wait, this is nonsense. It's just not true!"
Even if you just lost the love of your life, for example, it still doesn't mean that you're alone. Thankfully, there are still others in your life…especially Jesus!! Jesus' desire is to be your best friend and comforter in those times when you feel desperately alone.
Thinking about why I'd reacted so strongly to that song, I realized it was because there were many times in my past when I thought I was alone. So I'd sung wholeheartedly—or rather cried—along with that song. At those points in my life, somehow I had also wanted people to see how much I was suffering…I wanted to suffer.
But our God has a much different and better path for us!! He speaks through the prophet Isaiah, saying, "'Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.'" (Isaiah 43:18-19, NIV)
Looking back today, while I was still whining, God was starting something new that would bring me more than I lost…every time! It's always worth moving on because miracles are happening behind the scenes!
I had an eating disorder for seven years, but it is only because of this experience that God used me to start a therapeutic facility for other women suffering in this way! I was in a narcissistic relationship that made me depressed—but looking back today, that's the reason my book Stronger Than Ever came into being. Praise God, it has already helped many people! Each time, God was working behind the scenes on the miracle He had planned for me. And I could give you so many other examples! :-)
My biggest prayer in sharing all of this today is that you, too, would be encouraged to discover the miracle in your wound.
It all begins with a decision! Will you keep singing along with the lies of "I am so lonely," or will you choose to believe and trust, even right now, that God is working on your miracle behind the scenes? I will believe it with you! :-)
You are a miracle!
