Sharing the GospelSample

A few months ago, I learned the framework for evangelism through a conference. The goal was to bring together the process of sharing the Gospel message. You see, sharing the Gospel message is not a one-time thing. Sometimes it may take a few conversations, while other times, once seems enough. Ultimately, we desire to share the Gospel message effectively and clearly and equip others to do the same.

The process is called P.L.A.N.T. This is an acronym for Pray. Listen. Articulate. iNvite. Try again.

Pray

Pray for the boldness to share His message through the Holy Spirit. The Bible gives us so many examples of spirit-filled people. Paul was beaten and persecuted and still leaned on Jesus. He was filled with boldness. Pray for those who God will lead to you. Pray over their lives, hearts, mind, and soul.

Listen

Some of the best advice that I was ever given was that a good Christian is a good listener. Sometimes, more often than not, people don’t want you to fix their problems or life. They simply want you to listen. When you meet with someone, ask them questions. Ask them about their life and their spiritual journey. Then lean in and simply listen. Rely on the Holy Spirit to help you become a better listener.

Articulate

Sharing the Gospel and communicating it effectively is so important. Whenever sharing your story, consider who the person is and their background. Practice your testimony and lean into the Holy Spirit. As we mentioned earlier, practice your approach of how you will share your testimony. Take time to practice with friends and give feedback. A good testimony should be able to be shared within 5-6 minutes.

iNvite

Some conversations with people may allow you to ask, “Would you like to accept Christ today?” But other times, it may not. It’s super important to have discernment based on your conversation and where it’s heading. If you sense hesitation, maybe invite them to join your community group or church, read Scripture and set up another coffee date, or even pray that God will reveal Himself in the coming days. Whatever you do, always seek a moment to invite. We all want to feel a part of something.

Try Again

We must think about what our non-Christian friends need and what we can do next, then try again. Remember that sharing the Gospel is not a ‘one and done’ type of thing, but it’s a continuous process. It’s like planting vegetables. Once you plant the seeds, the vegetables do not immediately grow right then and there. There’s a process from the water to the right amount of sun. It’s the same with the message of Christ. Sometimes we have to keep inviting others to a Christ-centered conversation to create lifelong relationships.

The end goal of sharing the Gospel is that they will come to know the Lord and be his follower. And they will share it with others, continuing the process.
