The Creator in You

DAY 5 OF 5

Over the past few days, we’ve seen that God works and asks us to work with him. But why? How does our work matter to God?

There are many answers to that question. But here’s the one I want to focus on today: Your work—whether it’s schoolwork today or a job you have when you’re a grownup—all of it matters because it is part of how we show others what God is like.

Remember, God created you in his “image” (see Genesis 1:26). That means he created you to look like him—to act and work and create like him.

And how does God create? With love, excellence, and joy. And when you work the way God works, you make him smile. Psalm 37:23 says that God “delights in every detail” of your life. He doesn’t smile only when you go to church or read the Bible. “He delights in every detail!” He smiles when you plant a garden, score a goal, help a friend, and do your homework the way he would do those things.

Here’s how I put it in my book, The Creator in You: “Because when you work or you make something new, you are doing what God has made you to do. You are showing the world what your Father is like—a God who creates to bring people delight. And when you show others the Creator in you, you bring joy to the world—and to your Father too.”

Go work and create the way God would today, knowing that as you do, you are bringing joy to your heavenly Father!

About this Plan

The Creator in You

Before God told us that he is loving and holy, he told us that he is creative! What does that mean for your kids’ schoolwork, chores, and future careers? It means that they can view those things with God-ordained purpose, enthusiasm, and joy! That’s my goal for your elementary school aged children as you lead them through this five-day devotional.
