The Creator in YouSample
Does it make your parents happy when you do your chores, win a game, or play a beautiful song? Of course it does! But when you were a baby, you couldn't do any of those things. Does that mean your parents didn't love you when you were little? Of course not! They’ve loved you since before you were born simply because you are their child. The same is true of God, your Heavenly Father.
Genesis 1:27 says that God created Adam and Eve “in his own image.” That’s another way of saying that Adam and Eve were God’s children.
Tomorrow, we’re going to read the next verse where God gave Adam and Eve a job to do. But here’s what I want you to see today: Before God gave Adam and Eve a job, he gave them a family, and he loved them before they did a single day of work!
The same is true for you and me. God loves you if you get every question right on a test or none of them. He loves you if you make the team or you don’t. He loves you if you become a famous movie star or if nobody knows your name. Why? Because you are his child! And parents love their kids no matter what.
Someday, God may ask you to work for him as a doctor, police officer, or musician. But before that, he has asked you to be his kid. Thank him for adopting you into his family today!
Discussion Questions
- If God is creative and he made you “in his own image” what does that say about you?
- Do you know that your family loves you no matter how many good things you do and no matter how many bad things you do?
About this Plan
Before God told us that he is loving and holy, he told us that he is creative! What does that mean for your kids’ schoolwork, chores, and future careers? It means that they can view those things with God-ordained purpose, enthusiasm, and joy! That’s my goal for your elementary school aged children as you lead them through this five-day devotional.
