Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalms

DAY 19 OF 161

It Matters

“You reap what you sow” is an important life principle you may have heard. If you don't know this phrase, it can be summed up like this: If you treat somebody well, it’s probable they will treat you well in return. If you exercise every day, you will see the results. If you study hard for an exam, you will likely see the rewards. We see a fascinating principle in the second half of this Psalm. It starts with David saying, “The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness” (v. 24). This is followed by some clear examples:

“To the faithful you show yourself faithful,
to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure...” (v. 25- 26a)

As you show yourself to be faithful, God will certainly show Himself faithful to you. As you live a blameless life, free from guilt, the Lord will show Himself blameless to you. As you live pure in heart, the Lord will show Himself pure. As you are generous, you can be sure that God will give generously to you in return. The way you live your day-to-day matters, both in public and in private. As you read the rest of the Psalm, you will see that God wants to turn your darkness into light. He wants to give you strong feet, train your hands for battle, and it all starts with your heart.

GO DEEP: Read verses 25-26a again. Think about how you are living at the moment. Are you faithful and loyal? Are you currently living a blameless and pure life? Invite God to speak to you today and to turn any areas of darkness into light.

BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
