Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
The Answer
Psalm 111 ends with a profound statement that echoes through the Bible - “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” It’s like Psalm 112 knows what we’re thinking - “What does it mean to fear the Lord?!” This Psalm paints the picture of what it looks like day-to-day to live it! This “fear” is like nothing else we might call fear - maybe we should find a new word for it! The phrase “fear of the Lord” encompasses a whole way of life. Don’t be mistaken and think it’s a feeling you have when you’re scared of something! Let’s see how Psalm 112 describes it:
GO DEEP: Vs 1: The first verse kicks it off by saying there is blessing for those who “fear the Lord”, and then it goes on to list the first way of life for those who “fear of the Lord”. What is it?
Vs 4-5: Take a few minutes to read these verses a few times. What more can we learn about what it looks like to “fear the Lord?” Did you notice that these ways of life are also characteristics of our God? [Look back at verses 4&5 in Psalm 111]. Maybe another way of saying it is that we are to be like our Father in heaven!
Vs 6-9: Is there anything in these verses that you need more of in your life? Ask God to help you grow in that area.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
