Becoming Like Jesus: Silence and Solitude

DAY 16 OF 35

Our Father

Pray…

Heavenly Father, thank you for being a good Father. Thank you for sending your Son to die for me. Thank you for filling me with your Spirit. Guide me on the path you want me to follow and change me to become who you want me to be. I surrender all that I am to you. In Jesus name, amen.

Read…

“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’ - Matthew 6:9-13 NIV

Consider…

When asked by His disciples how to pray, this is what Jesus tells them. Talk to God like He’s your dad. Because He is. The first person of the Trinity is God the Father. But what makes God the Father so special is that He doesn’t carry any of the flaws of our earthly fathers. He is perfect and complete and He loves us perfectly and completely. We can come to Him with anything and everything knowing that He takes great joy when we do.

How has your relationship with your earthly father affected the way you see God as your Heavenly Father? What do you need to let go of to see God as your perfect Father?

Listen…

Find a comfortable place where you won’t be distracted. Maybe a cozy chair, a closet, or even sitting outside on a porch.

Set a timer for 5-10 minutes.

Settle into God’s presence by taking a few deep breaths and praying this prayer.

As you breathe in, “Lord Jesus…” When you breathe out, “Have mercy on me.”
Breathe in, “Heavenly Father…” Breathe out, “You’re all that I need.”
In, “Holy Spirit…” and out, “Breathe on me.”

Repeat this several times until your mind is clear and your body is still. When you’re ready, ask God to speak to you.

When you get distracted, repeat the prayer above to help you bring your attention back to God.

When the timer ends, thank God for the time you spent together and head into the rest of your day with a clearer sense of His presence.

About this Plan

Becoming Like Jesus: Silence and Solitude

We are on the journey of becoming like Jesus for the sake of others. As followers of Christ, one of the most powerful practices we can implement into our lives is spending time with God daily. That’s what part 2 of this series of Plans is all about—helping you create space to experience the presence of God so you can become more like Jesus.
