Pastor How to Read LukeSample
(Yeah… 2 weeks to unpack 1 chapter.)
Please read the Gospel of Luke 1:78-79 (NKJV),
78 Through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;
79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Dayspring – what a beautiful word.
Dayspring means dawn or morning light.
Dayspring is the first light of dawn that pierces the darkness.
Dayspring is the star that heralds the dawn.
It is the same idea as the Morning Star.
Jesus says in Revelations 22:16 - I am the Bright and Morning Star.
2 Peter 1:19 describes the prophecy of the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ - as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
Malachi 4:2 (NKJV)
2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings...
Words don’t do justice to Dayspring.
As a university student I read The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) trilogy a few times. (Yes, I read a lot of fantasy books.) J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia) were both devout Christians. Out of the abundance of their hearts, the pen wrote. Their literary works were actually Christian allegory novels.
From The Two Towers (LOTR), Gandalf (a symbol of Jesus) declared, “Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the East.”
Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
In that climatic battle scene, as the righteous heroes were almost overwhelmed and defeated, Gandalf came to the rescue with an army. In the same way, in our darkest hour, Jesus will return with His armies of angels (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9) and saints (1 Thessalonians 3:13).
Whenever I watch that climatic battle scene, I always get goosebumps because it is very spiritual and prophetic. I hope when you watch it, it will encourage you with faith and hope.
