Pastor How to Read Luke

DAY 11 OF 30

Please read the Gospel of Luke 1:46-56.

This song of praise from Mary is called the Magnificat, from verse 46.

46 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord,

What does it mean to magnify the Lord? Just think of a magnifying glass. Our soul (emotion, mind, will) is a magnifying glass. Does it make the image of God bigger and clearer?

That is why we must grow into the image of Christ.

When people look through my life, I hope they see my Lord bigger and clearer.

47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

For those who say that Mary is more powerful and important than Jesus because she is the mother of God, read this verse carefully. Mary herself proclaimed that God is her Savior and acknowledged that she is still in need of a Savior.

48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;

We often say things like - "Send my regards to your mum or your husband etc."

But we rarely say - "Send my regards to your servant or helper.”

Yet God, the highest, sends His regards to a lowly servant.

Let’s regard the lowly people. That’s the heart of God.

50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.

God’s mercy is on those who fear Him. Throughout the Bible, the emphasis has been on fearing God, not just loving Him. It’s good to love God, but we also need to fear Him.

And if we want 'surely goodness and mercy to follow us' for GenerationS, then we need to teach our children to fear God.
