Red Letter Challenge Kids: The 11-Day Discipleship Experience for Kids

DAY 8 OF 11

Day 8: Jesus Giving

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Luke 6:35

A famous commercial said that if you bought a phone from that company, it would cost you $0. Many people rushed to the store only to find out that the zero dollars meant THAT DAY only. You still had to pay for the phone, but they would bill you later on.

Commercials and advertisements don’t always show the whole truth.  Their endgame is to get you to buy their things. They don’t care if you need them or not, they want you to buy them.

When Jesus came to Earth, He had an endgame too. But His plan was not about you giving to Him. His goal was about Him giving to you.

Jesus gave many things:

  • Jesus gave up His power. He was God in heaven, and He became a helpless baby in a manger. That was a significant loss of power. No one expected a god to do this.
  • Jesus gave up His time. He spent so much time serving people by healing, preaching, and teaching. He healed many sicknesses and diseases. He went into people’s homes and had dinner with them. He talked with them and worshipped with them at the temple.
  • Finally, Jesus had to give His life. He gave everything He had. He took our sin, and when he died after living a perfect life, we went from being Jesus’s enemies to being His children.

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.. Luke 6:35

When Jesus tells us to love our enemies, it’s because He first loved us. We were enemies of God, and yet He still came to serve us. Through His death on the cross, we go from enemies to His friends.
