Day 1: Introduction: What is Red Letter Challenge Kids?

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

There’s a running joke at church or Sunday school that the answer is always, “Jesus!” to any question. 

Is Jesus the answer to every question? Take a look at some facts about Jesus:   

• Jesus was a man who changed history. Every time you write down the date, you record how many years it has been since Jesus died.   
• Have you ever been to the doctor? Before Jesus, no one had ever thought of the idea that everyone has the right to get checkups and receive proper medicine.   
• The first book ever printed was the Gutenberg Bible in 1455. Before that, every book was copied by hand. 

Jesus was also true God. His presence on earth made ALL the difference. It didn’t just affect our history; it affected our future, too. Jesus came and offered a new life for everyone: an opportunity to follow after Him, also known as to be a “disciple.” 

As you are learning to grow, you are also on a journey to discover what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Thankfully, Jesus came into this world to show us and to share how to live as His disciples. In many Bibles, the words that Jesus said are printed in “Red.” In this devotional, we will look at five targets we can aim at based on all of the Red Letters that Jesus said. Here are the five targets we’ll explore:  

1. He spent time BEING with God the Father  
2. He showed us what FORGIVING others meant.  
3. SERVING is what He does every day.  
4. Jesus’s GIVING was based on love and sacrifice.   
5. When we see Jesus GOING, it gives us hope that we are never alone. 

When it comes to the best way to follow Jesus, it turns out that looking to Jesus is still the correct answer!
