5 Money Lessons for KidsSample
According to the Bible, one of the most common instructions that we have as believers with our money is that we're supposed to be generous with it. We're supposed to give. It's ultimately God's design for your money to be used to advance His Kingdom.
And if that's your priority, then debt can become a hindrance to that priority. If our money is already allocated to go to a creditor, then we are not fully available to go wherever God takes us or do whatever He asks us to do.
But when we are free, we can live with our hands wide open saying, God, whatever you want me to do with it. Wherever you want me to go, I can go because we've been good stewards of those resources.
The Bible calls debt a burden. It's a burden that's going to be on you until you pay it off. And it's going to have significant ramifications on your life. It's going to hinder the dreams that you have right now — which is why we should try to avoid it at all costs.
From a young age, we should be teaching our children the dangers of debt. I vulnerably share my past mistakes with debt with them, in hopes that they can avoid the mistakes I made. And at the same time, I share the opportunities and the freedom that we have experienced from being 100% debt free. My prayer is that, in receiving both perspectives, they will opt-out of the debt-dominated lifestyle that so many subscribe to.
