5 Money Lessons for Kids

DAY 1 OF 5

We are called to work.

And income is the natural result of our work.

When I was a kid, I seemed to think that money just grew on trees and that I could get whatever I wanted by just asking.

This was really nothing more than just a lack of education on my part. I had no idea that things cost money. And now that I am a parent, I realize that my kids don't understand this either. But it is our job as parents to teach them.

We are not avoiding conversations about money but, rather, initiating them by explaining that I have to work in order to earn money so that we can have a roof over our head, food in the fridge, that video game my son loves, and the ability to share with others.

As with most of parenting, these lessons aren’t learned after a single instruction to our kids.  But rather, it is the continual reminder that causes our kids to eventually have these truths seeded deep in the hearts of our children.

So continue (or begin) having these conversations with your children. Work is God’s idea, and you can be assured that to accomplish the task He has put us on the earth for it will require more than us sitting on the couch all day.  It will require work; so let’s lead by example by getting after it and teach our kids to do the same!
