Creativity + Jesus: A 5-Day Reading Plan for Kids by Dave ConnisSample
“God invented Eva because He wanted to share the things that make Him happy…” — The Inventions of God (And Eva) by Dave Connis
If you have a pizza party with hundreds of boxes of pizza, it’s so much more fun to share with friends and family. If you really like pizza, and you really like certain people, you want to share the good news. To invite them to the party, because an abundance of pizza is most fun when shared.
God didn’t just make humans because He thought they were a cool idea. He wanted to share His love and joy. He wanted someone to enjoy all that He had made. Not only that, He wanted to invite us not only to enjoy the party, but also to work with Him to keep the party going. Humans are made from an abundance of God’s love.
God didn’t have to ask us to name the animals. God had just created the entire solar system, stars, Jupiter, and Mars. He could certainly come up with the word “cat” or “ant,” but He gave that special job to Adam—to humans. He didn’t need to put Adam in the garden to work. If God could create things like light with a word, He could take care of and tend the world with a sniffle.
Creating is something all humans get to do, because God wants us to share in the joy of creating, tending, making, and forming the garden—creating creation. He wants us to share the abundance of His love.
So, put on your thinking rain jackets, soccer cleats, and sunglasses, and take the rest of the day to think about this:
Why does it matter that God has invited us to the party of inventing, creating, and making in His world?
Other questions:
1. Did God need to make humans to help Him create and make in the world?
2. God’s inviting you to create with Him! What things can you do to create with God?

About this Plan
Whether it's a new plan for a tree house, a refreshed take on a rocket ship, or a robotic dog that eats unwanted broccoli, kids are always inventing, coming up with new ideas, and stretching their imaginations. And as Dave Connis illustrates in his book, The Inventions of God (and Eva), when kids create, they are expressing a reflection of God's character and joining Him in His act of creation!
