The Bible Is Legit

It’s Saturday, you’re at home, and you’re HUNGRY. But not just any food will do — you decide to look up some recipes, and you find one for the biggest, most amazing-looking pizza you’ve ever seen.

So you sit there and look at the recipe. An hour goes by. Then two hours. Three hours later, you’re still looking at the recipe, and you’re hungrier than ever. What gives? Why isn’t looking at that delicious pizza helping you feel full?

You probably already know the answer; we can’t just LOOK at a recipe, we have to actually do something with it for it to help us! Here’s the thing: The Bible is the same way. Learning about God and how He wants us to live is a good thing, but doing what we read about is even more important. 

This is what James tells us in James 1:25 (and by the way, “the perfect law” he mentions is the Bible):

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”

The Bible is legit because it can guide us to live out what we read, and no matter the situation, living out what the Bible says will always take us in the right direction. So remember what you read and what you hear, and put it into action!

Ask yourself: Why should we do what the Bible says instead of just reading about it? Who can you talk to when it’s hard for you to do something the Bible says?

Challenge yourself: Pick something you’ve learned from the Bible to live out. (You could forgive someone, help a person in need, spend time praising and thanking God, etc.)

Pray: God, thank You for giving us a book that can help us so much. Help us learn all we can from it and then put what we learn into practice! In Jesus’ name, amen.
