Through the Bible: Song of SongsSample
Undying Love
Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away, if one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, he would be utterly despised.
Song of Songs 8:6-7 (ESV)
While on a date, Mary asked her boyfriend, Jim:
Mary: Jim, you have often expressed your love to me, but what I really want to know is if you are willing to die for me?
Jim: Of course NOT.
Mary: Hmmm...why not?
Jim: Mary, I can’t die for you because my love is an undying love.
Love involves risk and daring; it is passionate and ferocious; it is as elemental as death—like what Songs 8: 6, 7 have described.
In Songs 8: 6, 7, the young woman wishes to be united with her lover with a vow (a “seal”); something that will provide some security against the forces that can harm the love that lies between them.
Jesus has “placed a seal” over our hearts by dying for our sins. His love was “undying” because He arose from the dead. We are now being asked, “Are we willing to die for Him by fully submitting our lives into His will?” What would be your answer?
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your undying love that provided the seal over our hearts. Help me to live a life pleasing to You by taking up the cross daily. Help me not to strive against Your will but to submit willingly to follow Your ways. In Your name I pray, Amen.

About this Plan
The Song of Solomon is regarded as the greatest of all poetic songs that portray the affection between a man and a woman, from courtship to marriage. The author depicts the physical pleasure God blesses a couple for their enjoyment as they come to union in marriage. This union is foreshadowing but nowhere near in comparison to, the perfect union between Christ and His people in His second coming.
