Mark: Living the Way of Jesus in the WorldSample
First Thought
As readers, we’ve been privileged to know who Jesus is right from the first verse. For the disciples and the crowds that gathered, it’s been a different journey watching Jesus, listening to Him, wondering at His mighty deeds and His authority to act and speak as God Himself. Now, though, Peter is sure. Jesus is their long-awaited Messiah, the Holy One of God in their midst. From here on in, Jesus begins to teach them what this means. It’s not what they expect. No wonder it’s hard for the disciples. It was unimaginable that their Messiah would suffer and be killed. Nor could they get their heads around Jesus rising from the dead. As Jesus journeys towards Jerusalem, He must teach them about what it will mean for them to follow Him in all things.
What Does the Bible Say?
