You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart,
and with all your soul,
and with all your mind.
Matthew 22:37 (NAS)
I know you probably get weary of me talking to you about Wesley, but you learn a lot of things from the people who are in your life daily and even though Wes isn't a "people" (which he refuses to accept as truth), I learn a lot from him.
He is very intelligent, not like a Lassie, but a pretty smart 24-pound Jack Russell terrier. He can do a lot of tricks and we practice those tricks nearly every night, giving a Del Monte cut green bean as the reward for a trick well done. (That silly dog loves them!) I just recently taught him to "howl.". I throw back my head and howl and he howls with me. We make a very unusual, noisy duet! Sit, stay, stand up, down, over, dead dog, shake, and more are all on his impressive resume.
A Jack Russell terrier has the unique instinct for choosing one member of his human family and placing that person on his list as #1. Well, Wes chose me. (A wise choice since I feed him!) Wherever I am, there you will find Wes. He may have his head on my foot, leaning against my leg as I read, or sitting in the kitchen with me while I do my thing. Right now he is in my study with me, curled up in my comfy chair. When I get up, he will get up and go wherever I'm going'garage, back yard, front yard, across the street to the Evans', or outside in the sunshine. And he is alert to my every movement, even when I get up at 3:30 AM to go to the bathroom! His eyes never leave me, the source who meets all his needs. Wesley worships me! And do you know what I have discovered? It is an awesome responsibility to be worshipped! Why? Because he looks to me for everything! Guidance, food, instruction, warmth, everything!
Well, we worship our Lord, Jesus Christ, knowing that He is the Source of all our needs. We look to Him for everything! It's His responsibility to watch over us constantly, [1] to tenderly care for us, [2] to love us,[3] and let us stay very close to Him.[4] His eyes never leave us.[5] He is aware of everything we do or say. [6]
Wes (if he could talk to you), would tell you that I'm perfect. Why? Because I love him and watch over him so carefully. He wants to be with me wherever I am and wants to please me with his behavior. Isn't that our relationship with Jesus? I want to be with Him every second of the day and I want to please Him in every aspect of my life. I want Him to be aware of my love for Him, so much so that I never take my eyes off Him.
Jesus has accepted that awesome place of being worshipped and He has proven Himself worthy of that responsibility. Wherever I go, He goes with me. He watches over me carefully. He is perfect, no doubt about that, and His love for me exceeds all my expectations and desires.
That "instinct" to worship comes with every newborn babe. And just like Wesley, that babe will grow up to worship some thing or some one. Who or what have I chosen to worship? What have you chosen to worship?
You are worthy, Father, Creator,
You are worthy, Savior, Sustainer,
You are worthy, worthy and wonderful,
Worthy of worship and praise.

About this Plan
Has your faith become more of a burden than a source of joy and rest? The Christian life is not difficult to live. It's impossible to live! God never intended for you to live it. Jesus Christ is the only one who who has ever successfully lived the Christian life, and His plan is to live it through you. We expend so much energy spinning our wheels, trying to live for God instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to live through us. In this deeply personal, encouraging devotional plan, Anabel Gillham comes alongside you to teach you how to allow Christ to express His overcoming life through you on a moment-by-moment basis. It will remind you of who you are in Christ. It will open the floodgates of God's grace, guiding you to experience true rest and freedom in the midst of the storms of life.
