Day 5: Word of God
God gave us the key to life. He has the map, but we hold the key. That sounds like a pretty fair deal, right? God will guide us, and we will unlock our way to heaven by accepting Him. Yet, we hardly use it. The Bible is our map and directions. The point is for us to read the Bible to understand what rules to follow and how to survive life. The Bible is literally a survival guide!
When we pick up the Bible and start to read it, it almost always becomes confusing. We don’t understand it and it raises more questions than answers. So, what do we do? We quit reading it. The Bible is not meant to be confusing, but it’s harder to grasp the past because of our ever-changing world and culture that believes in moving forward. Fortunately, so many people have analyzed it for us to make it easier with Bible studies and Christian podcasts. If we hang in there and keep pressing in to learn more, God will make sense of the jumble and His word will speak clearly. It’s worth trying to understand because it will shape how we're supposed to live our life.
In Joshua 1:8 it tells us to “keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” The God of all Gods sent us a book with His word written in it, so that we may read it and grow closer to Him. He wants to lead us in the right direction, so He was generous enough to give us the blueprint of His plan. All we must do is read and follow it, so that we may honor Him with all that we do.
God makes things fair plus rewards us for the good that we do. The Bible is constantly being translated into more and more languages and is available to almost everyone online. Although His word is readily accessible to us, we see it as outdated, boring, or a chore. We need to rethink and take advantage of the gift of His word. It is a gift. It is a blessing. If we were placed into this world with no guidance, we’d be lost. Think about if there was no pastor to preach into your life or no teacher to help you learn what’s right and wrong. Where would you go for wisdom?
When we rethink how lucky we are for this book, we will begin to treasure it as we should. God didn't have to give it to us, but He did. And when God does things, it’s for a reason. Think about how lucky you are for having access to a bible and set aside time to dive into it. Remember: the Bible is the key to living a successful life. If you don’t know what’s in it, you're not living the life God intended you to live.
Discuss:
1) What has discouraged you in the past when you read the Bible? How did you get around that?
2) Set aside time this week to dive into His word.
