What Dad Needs

DAY 3 OF 5

Legacy

Everywhere we look, we are constantly reminded of the deep hurt people are facing and how our world is filled with sin because of it. Children are being abandoned, poverty is striking every corner, violence and crime are rampant, and the list seems to go on and on. How many of these issues could be solved if fathers were stepping up in a godly way more consistently? Studies show that there is a greater chance that children will follow Christ if their fathers do; this sheds some light on the impact of a godly father.  Statistics also show that there is a four times greater likelihood of poverty, seven times more likelihood of teen pregnancy, two times more likelihood of dropping out of high school, and a higher chance of substance abuse and depression in a child’s life when a father is not there. This truly exemplifies how important legacy is.

The choice of one father affects generations to come; it creates either good or bad cycles that are hard to break. I remember sitting with my grandfather and listening to him; his wisdom has and continues to impact the decisions I make today. My grandad’s choice to follow Christ created a lasting legacy for my father, myself, and now my children. The greatest legacy of all time is that which Jesus has given us. It is the legacy that connects believers from thousands of years ago to us now: that regardless of the sin in the world, our Heavenly Father gave His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice to pay our debt and offer us eternal life. Legacy is important to God and directly affects our lives. Let us take a moment to recognize how having our earthly fathers establish a godly legacy has impacted who we are today. We can thank them by continuing this legacy and cherishing it.

Prayer: Father, we thank you for Your legacy and that we have access to it regardless of what our earthly legacy looks like. Thank you that we have an opportunity to continue this legacy with our own families, friends, and even strangers through choosing You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

What Dad Needs

Fathers are people who constantly sacrifice for their families with very little recognition. There are many ways to give back to these men in our lives, but it is sometimes difficult to know what they are and how to implement them everyday. As you dive into Biblical ways to recognize and strengthen your relationship with your earthly dad, you will also see the many ways they reflect our Heavenly Father.
