What Dad Needs

DAY 2 OF 5

Respect For Their Importance

In today’s society, men, especially fathers, are constantly being told what they are doing wrong. Think about every sitcom on television or your favorite Netflix show. More often than not, a father is portrayed as the goofy side character who never offers a good solution, or as an absent man who leaves his wife to clean up all the messes he created. This comes from a deep lack of respect and understanding of what God says about dads and who He has called them to be. Although self-reflection and awareness for growth are important for us all, it is equally as important to receive recognition and appreciation for who we are. Whether yours is a stay-at-home father, a businessman, or anything in between, it is imperative to give honor where it is due and to shower our fathers with love. The first simple way to acknowledge this is by offering our fathers respect for their importance.

Respect is defined as a feeling of deep admiration for someone elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. But how do we show respect? The Bible teaches us that we can show love and respect for our Father by following His commandments. One of the greatest ways we can respect our fathers is by following their rules and doing so with a thankful heart. However, respect is not only demonstrated by following rules, but by also creating a real relationship with our dads through listening to and sharing with them regularly. When you hold respect for someone and consider them important, you value what they have to say and how they feel. You also share your thoughts and experiences with them, which in turn strengthens the bond you have together.

It is the same with our Heavenly Father. Yes, it is important to live in a way that glorifies and reflects God, but He also delights when we come to Him to hear His voice and share our hearts. Let’s reflect on how we can show both our earthly and Heavenly Fathers their importance by communing with them more often.

Prayer: Father, we thank You for Your words that bring us life. Thank you for the wisdom You have instilled in our dads. We ask that You present us with opportunities to listen and share with them. Help us to demonstrate our respect for them by cherishing the moments we get to learn about who they are. Teach us to do the same with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

What Dad Needs

Fathers are people who constantly sacrifice for their families with very little recognition. There are many ways to give back to these men in our lives, but it is sometimes difficult to know what they are and how to implement them everyday. As you dive into Biblical ways to recognize and strengthen your relationship with your earthly dad, you will also see the many ways they reflect our Heavenly Father.
